Current sponsors include the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, the FAZIT-Foundation (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Helsingin Sanomat Foundation and the Foundation Presse-Haus NRZ, as well as three major political foundations: Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and Heinrich-Böll-Foundation. The Department of Political and Social Sciences consists of the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science, the Institute of Sociology, the Institute for Media and Communication Studies, and the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology.

The department is one of the most research-intensive political and social scientific institutions in Germany. Examples of this are a collaborative research center and a group of researchers in the fields of international relations and European studies, and participation in research networks including two clusters supported by the German Excellence Initiative, Topoi and Languages of Emotion, and two graduate schools funded through the same initiative, the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies and the Graduate School of East Asian Studies. Journalists interested in the programme should apply directly to the European Journalism-Fellowships Programme in Berlin.

Value:

  • The EJO-EJF Fellow receives a monthly stipend of 1.100 € for the duration of 10 months.
  • Standard Fellowship: for journalists with at least 5 years of experience. Standard fellows receive a monthly stipend of 1,500 Euros for the duration of ten months.
  • Junior Fellowship: for journalists with about five years of professional experience. Junior Fellows receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 up to 1,100 Euros for the duration of ten months.

Eligibility: Journalists from across Europe, the United States, Russia and the Arabic region
