Saraswati Dalmia UK study abroad scholarships SOAS

Introduction: SOAS UK study abroad scholarships were created to honour Saraswati Dalmia, a scholar and a poet, who belonged to the generation of women of the 30s. She contributed to the struggle for independence in India, thus the Saraswati Dalmia scholarships for art students. This scholarship has been established with a donation by her daughter Yashodhara Dalmia, an art historian and an independent curator based in New Delhi. She has written widely on art, and her several publications include Amrita Sher-Gil – A Life (Penguin/Viking, 2006), which is a comprehensive account of the life of one of India’s first modern artists. Eligible Programmes for Saraswati Dalmia scholarships

The applicant must propose to study on a full-time OR part-time for MPhil/PhD. The study must involve researching the field of Indian art. Also, the Indian art must be from 1500 up to the present day. Interest in research in the field of modern and contemporary Indian art will be prioritised. Also, the first year MPhil/PhD will be considered.

Selection criteria for Saraswati Dalmia scholarships

The scholarship is open to both  Home/EU and overseas applicants with an outstanding academic record, usually a 2.1 or first class for the undergraduate degree. If applying for a PhD, applicants are expected to have a Merit or Distinction in their Master’s Degree.

For new applicants for the MPhil/PhD programme, admission at SOAS must have been offered to be eligible. Also, the applicant must have demonstrated a research proposal in the area specified earlier. The English Language is the mode of study. Thus applicant must have met the English language requirement for the course of study.

Qualification for the scholarship will be based on application and papers submitted. Thus candidates are advised to submit good references, via the SOAS on-line application.
