Introduction: The Foundation offers the exceptional Allan Gray scholarships in South Africa for undergraduates to Southern Africa’s pioneering bright young students. This initiative aims to develop students, known as Allan Gray Candidate Fellows, into Southern Africa’s future high impact responsible entrepreneurs. Every year, the Foundation selects the best and most ambitious Grade 12 and first year university students from Southern Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland to join its vibrant community of Allan Gray Candidate Fellows. Interested applicants can apply for the Fellowship opportunity during their Grade 12 school year or during their first year of university. The Fellowship application is open to learners and students from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland. The Fellowship selection team aims to correctly select talented individuals from the Southern African region so that the Fellowship is awarded to individuals that are most able to leverage this opportunity. The Fellowship selection team specifically focuses on attracting eligible applicants using effective assessment tools and rigorous and reliable processes to make sure that eligible candidates are fairly assessed and that the correct decisions are made. Allan Gray scholarships in South Africa for undergraduates Eligibility:

    • Intellectual Imagination: Demonstrated by an established record of intellectual achievement; an ability to see the unseen, challenge the status quo and suggest that things could be done differently.
    • Courageous Commitment: The courage and dedication to continue, realising that applying consistent commitment has a way of overcoming.
    • Spirit of Significance: A weight of personality that comes from living a life personified by passion and integrity.
    • Personal Initiative: A person who makes things happen and celebrates the satisfaction of bringing new things into being. Independent, proactive and self-starting

South Africa Grade 12

  • Citizens of South Africa
  • Belief in the future of your country
  • An ambassador of the Foundation’s intended profile (refer to General Selection Criteria above)
  • Intention to study for a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy, or Economics) degree at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch or UP
  • Level 5 in Pure Mathematics for Grade 11 results
  • Level 6 average for Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 31 July

South Africa 1st Year University

  • Citizens of South Africa
  • Belief in the future of your country
  • An ambassador of the Foundation’s intended profile (see General Selection Criteria above)
  • Studying towards a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Humanities (majoring Politics, Philosophy or Economics),  Engineering or Law
  • Studying at the following universities WITS, UJ, UCT,NMMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch, TSiBA, UFS or UP
  • Minimum average of 65% for your  mid-year (June) exam results
  • You cannot be older than 22 years of age in the year of your application

Swaziland Grade 12

  • Citizenship of Swaziland
  • Belief in the future of your country
  • An ambassador of the Foundation’s intended profile (refer to General Selection Criteria above)
  • Minimum C in Mathematics for Form 4 and minimum B average for Form 4 results
  • Minimum C in Mathematics for Form 5 and minimum B average for Form 5 results
  • Intention to study for a Commerce, Science (excluding medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (Majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) degree at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMMU, Rhodes or UP
  • Certified copies of academic/extra-curricular awards/recognition must be provided
  • Candidates must not be older than 21 years of age

Namibia Grade 12

  • Citizenship of Namibia
  • Belief in the future of your country
  • An ambassador of the Foundation’s intended profile (refer to General Selection Criteria above)
  • Intention to study for a Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) degree at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMMU, Rhodes or UP
  • Minimum B (Extended Level) or minimum 3 (High Level) average in Mathematics for Grade 11 results
  • Minimum B (Extended Level) or minimum 3 (High Level) average in Mathematics (Grade 12 April results)
  • Candidates must not be older than 21 years of age

Botswana Grade 12

  • Citizenship of Botswana
  • Belief in the future of your country
  • An ambassador of the Foundation’s intended profile (refer to General Selection Criteria above)
  • Minimum C in Mathematics and Minimum B Average for Form 4 results
  • Intention to study for I/B at Maru-A-Pula.
